about

I wrote “No Good Partier” about the very first high school party I attended, and the wild antics I observed over the rim of my Sprite can while sitting in the corner looking like a promotion poster for a remake of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Many of my friends were drunk and delirious across this HGTV like mansion of a setting, and my introverted self tried to “party” the best I could, but I often found myself crawling back to a throw pillow and wondering why I was so bad at having a high-school defined good time. The song follows my observations of the glitter and LED invested shenanigans around me, all through a house-party, pop sound with intricate and highly relatable lyrics.

lyrics

LEDs strung on the walls
And my friends strung on the floor
Swear she left the tag on purposely
So everyone would know how much its worth

On the pavement, pacing,
Wasted a week getting wasted
And all the mansions on this street
Were just copied and pasted

Cause I’m a no good partier
The designated driver
My friends are strung out on the couch
They look so pathetic when their minds ain’t sober

Tried to make the time count
Instead I’m counting calories
This night will be the death of me,
Guess I’m no life of the party

Trying to find the rush in a rush of name brand shoes
But the serotonin’s all alcohol-induced
And I can’t tell if they are just obsessed
Or if they’d rather be delirious than conscious and upset

Dumping out the cabinets,
Whatever happens happens,
And I feel bad for the parents
Who have to clean this up
Plastic cups and paper plates,
And all this makeup gone to waste
But it’s obvious I’m no expert at this stuff

Cause I’m a no good partier
The designated driver
My friends are strung out on the couch
They look so pathetic when their minds ain't sober

Tried to make the time count,
Instead I’m counting calories
This night will be the death of me,
Guess I’m no life of the party

Can’t smell the thousand dollar perfume
Over the weed that they’re smoking
So many stars in their eyes
That can barely even see the hands that they’re holding
A bunch of socialites with the lights turned down
Hair slicked back but with strands of secrets hanging out

Cause I’m a no good partier
The designated driver
My friends are strung out on the couch
They look so pathetic when their minds ain’t sober

They’re practically making out
With the leather in the backseat
They’ll forget it tomorrow,
But I guess I’m no life of the party
