about

I wrote New Years Resolutions two years ago approximately two minutes after opening up a midi keyboard for Christmas when I was 14. Through a conglomeration of messing around with the various new instruments and sounds I could create in Garage Band, I was transfixed by the overwhelming amount of emerging possibilities, and so I of course decided to write a song utilizing such. The story centers around a character grieving a past relationship around New Years while under a guise of celebration and hopefulness at a New Years Eve Party, slowly questioning what "New Years Resolutions" to make for an upcoming year that seems so unpredicted and uncertain.

lyrics

365 days
365 ahead of me
That I’m supposed to learn how to tolerate

But you’re at a different party
Dancing with a different girl
So someone tell me what I’m expected to celebrate

The balls about to drop
The champagnes about to pop
And Im stuck here thinking about some New Years Resolutions

And I don’t want a repeat
Of last year but what should I do differently
And its hard to think bout what’s to come
When you’re stuck thinking bout what isn’t

Girls dressed up as dolls
Shoes lining the halls
But someone’s got to be sober enough to drive us all home

Paper and ribbons
Across the floors and ceilings
But someone’s bound to have to clean them up tomorrow

The balls about to drop
The champagnes about to pop
And Im stuck here thinking about some New Years Resolutions

How to be a better person
How to make that better version
Of myself that I’ve been searching for for ages

And suddenly they’re screaming
No nostalgic feelings
Just a glimmer of hope

They’re all up from their chairs and
They’ve got the TV blaring
But somebody’s got to clean it up tomorrow

The ball’s already dropped
The champagnes already popped
And I don’t have a single New Years Resolution written down

Holding back tears
From the smiling, happy people here
Who’ve got the music playing excessively loud

(Music interlude)

In the corner crying
Rose gold confetti flying
They’re screaming and dancing while I’m wondering what’s worth celebrating

Sequined dresses lined with lace
Mascara running down my face
Somebody tell me what we’re expected to celebrate

Paper and bows
Glitter and gold
But somebody’s gotta clean it up tomorrow
